Hysteresis effects, multiple negative differential resistance (NDR) regions in the discharge current-voltage characteristic, observations of self excited oscillations etc. are being studied in a DC discharge system with co-axial electrode geometry. Such observations have been observed in a planar geometry in the presence of a third electrode, used as an auxiliary anode. A comparison of floating potential oscillations taken by Langmuir Probe (L.P.) with discharge characteristics has revealed certain regions wherein the oscillations have been observed to change from chaotic to periodic waveforms with an increase in control parameter value (discharge current). This type of behavior is contrary to expectations. Hysteresis effect is seemed to be associated with this transition which is indicative of the presence of nonlinear effect. Nonlinear dynamical tools like TISEAN and TSTOOL have been used to confirm the presence of chaotic behavior in the system.  Further studies are being carried out to understand the phenomenon.

:
  1. Conversant with software, such as, Origin, Autocad, Matlab, Tisean and TSTOOL.
  2. Experience in plasma experimentation.
